Those seeking thrills will have plenty of options in 2024, owing to a combination of original stories, remakes, and sequels. This includes the release of new films from prominent filmmakers such as M. Night Shyamalan, Robert Eggers, and Tim Burton, as well as the Radio Silence duet and Ti West. Meanwhile, new editions of modern franchises such as A Quiet Place and classic series such as Alien are expected in 2024, making them among the most anticipated films. Here are all the horror movies that will be released in 2024:
Lisa Frankenstein – February 9, 2024
Lisa Frankenstein is not a standard horror film due out in 2024, but its link to a classic horror character makes it relevant. Diablo Cody’s new film is a romantic horror comedy featuring Kathryn Newton as a teenage girl who finds love by reviving a corpse played by Cole Sprouse. Zelda Williams’ feature picture directorial debut, Lisa Frankenstein, appears to be a funny and violent reworking of the classic Frankenstein’s monster myth. The film opens in theaters on February 9, 2024.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 — February 14, 2024
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, a dark, twisted, and gory spin on Winnie the Pooh and other Hundred Acre Woods characters, will be released in 2024. Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the writer/director of the original slasher film, returns to write and direct the sequel, which will be published in 2023. Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, and Christopher Robin have all been confirmed to return for the upcoming movie, with Tigger and Owl also joining. The release date for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 has been confirmed as Valentine’s Day 2024.
Imaginary — March 8, 2024
Imaginary is the new horror film from director Jeff Wadlow, who has previously worked on films such as Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island. Wadlow appears in yet another Blumhouse production. The plot of Imaginary is around a woman who returns to her childhood home only to discover that her imaginary buddy is real. It follows DeWanda Wise’s character as she reconnects with her sad buddy after a long absence. The cast also features Veronica Falcón, Dane DiLiegro, and Matthew Sato. Imaginary will open in theaters on March 8, 2024.
A Quiet Place: Day One — June 28, 2024
A Quiet Place: Day One, the franchise’s third installment, will be released in 2024. The film serves as a prequel to the previous two parts, taking place on the first day that alien monsters begin to terrorize humans. This time, Pig director Michael Sarnoski takes over for John Krasinski behind the camera. The cast for A Quiet Place: Day One is almost all new, led by Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things, and Alex Wolff. Djimon Hounsou returns after his role in A Quiet Place Part II.
Baghead — TBD 2024
The 2024 horror film Baghead depicts Kevin, a man who meets a shape-shifting witch known as Baghead, who can provide him with the answers he wants. Alberto Corredor makes his feature-length directorial debut, having previously directed a short film of the same name. Baghead stars Freya Allan from The Witcher, Jeremy Irvine from Treadstone, Saffron Burrows, and Peter Mullen. It is planned to be available in 2024.
Thread: An Insidious Tale — TBD 2024
The next installment of the Insidious franchise comes in 2024 with Thread: An Insidious Tale. The movie is a spinoff from the main Insidious franchise that tells an entirely separate story following characters played by Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore. They play a husband and wife who use a spell to travel back in time to prevent their daughter’s death, which has worse consequences than imagined. Thread: An Insidious Tale is written and directed by Jeremy Slater, and a 2024 release is possible given the usually quick turnaround time for this franchise’s movies.
