Sikandar serves as yet another warning that bad narrative and cliched formulae cannot be compensated for by star power alone, as Salman Khan’s box office performance continues to deteriorate.
Salman Khan, who once dominated the box office, is currently having difficulty adjusting to a changing film industry that no longer relies solely on star power to ensure success. Sikandar, directed by Salman Khan, has been generally hailed as a fiasco by critics and viewers alike, marking yet another setback for the “Dabangg” star.
Both fans and critics pointed to the films’ outmoded cliches and flimsy plots as reasons why Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Radhe were unable to resurrect Khan’s widespread appeal. Even the Tiger franchise, which was formerly seen as a reliable blockbuster engine, has begun to show signs of weariness as viewer enthusiasm is drained by cliched themes.
It appears that bringing in well-known co-stars isn’t keeping Khan’s films from failing. Despite having well-known Indian performers like Shehnaz Gill, Pooja Hegde, Palak Tiwari, Disha Patani, and Rashmika Mandanna, these recent box office failures failed to win over viewers.
What Didn’t Go Right?
Actors and directors need to understand that audiences have changed. The days of relying on a well-known storyline, a few exaggerated action sequences, and a talented ensemble to ensure box office success are long gone. The modern moviegoer is significantly less understanding, more discerning, and shrewd. Sikandar is a perfect illustration of what occurs when you rely too much on antiquated formulas and fail to consider that the audience has evolved.
The bar has been increased as a result of streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video providing a wealth of excellent, genre-bending content from all over the world. Nowadays, people anticipate that their moviegoing experiences will be at least as compelling, complex, and skillfully made as their home viewing. Because of this, movies starring younger, more ambitious Bollywood actors or South Indian celebrities with original plots and well-written screenplays are attracting attention.
After Sikandar was released, the filmmakers had to contend with the issue of the film being leaked online for download and streaming. Even though the creators say they were able to remove every link, this turned out to be a huge setback.
Salman Khan’s traditional style of filmmaking, which was historically associated with box office success, is starting to seem obsolete as this change takes place. Sikandar’s inability to generate excitement begs the urgent question of whether formula-driven celebrity is still relevant in a film business that is changing quickly.
Only time will tell if Khan’s once-unshakable reign over the action genre continues to wane until he adjusts to the new demands of storytelling and viewer expectations.
Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Smita Patil, and Sathyaraj all play important parts in “Sikandar.” The title has been funded by Sajid Nadiadwala, with AR Murugadoss leading the charge.
Here are some interesting reactions from movie goers after the film was released.
‘Wo bhi kya din the’

The action drama #Sikandar lacks interest and has a drab plot. With the exception of a few good action sequences, there is little to enjoy, and the background music is awful. The biggest catastrophe for the Salman and AR Murugadoss partnership.
